I went viral on Instagram with wine “content”. Here’s how
Almost half a million views, two thousand new followers, and thousands of hours of watch time. And a simple structure you should follow too.
Wow, that’s a clickbaity title isn’t it. “Hey Joe, we’ve got the mid noughties on the telephone and Buzzfeed wants its “curiosity gap” headline back.” Ah yes, the golden age of how to go viral with social media engagement. Headlines like…
“Remember these five celebrities who launched wine brands? You won’t believe how they look NOW!”
Perhaps not.
I desperately didn’t want this to be one of those “try this one hack and see you social media followers EXPLODE” things. But it turns out I tried “this one hack” and, well, yes, my social media exploded. Here are the raw stats:
Imagine reaching almost half a million people, 99.2% of whom have never heard of you before. I feel both proud and dreadful that humanity has collectively spent more than twenty six weeks watching me talk about booze at picnics in 29 second bursts. But not so guilty I won’t tell you how I did it. With “this one hack”.
This sort of thing is vanishingly rare for wine “content”. A dread word that almost nobody realises was originally a term of derision from the early days of the internet. Engineers who wrote the code considered themselves above those who wrote the the stuff you read so would off-handedly say “that’s where you put the content”. All very The IT Crowd.
Anyhoo, here’s the secret* formula* no one tells you* that gives proven* results* instantly*. Don’t miss out*.
(*all high emotion words that increase engagement in tests. See bottom of post for link.)
Although… like a Gawker exclusive from 2005 you need to be a subscriber to read on. This is part of the Wine Marketing Masterclass and a bargain at $100 a year with weekly MBA level insights in a structured marketing programme from a former academic at Strathclyde Business School, and wine marketing author. So maybe not so much like a Gawker headline after all. Wouldn’t it be worth it to learn how to increase your social media following by 15% in a fortnight… of course it would.
